Home Reading Program (beginning Monday, October 1st)
Each week your child will bring home two books that are at their current reading level. The book will come home in their Read Every Day (R.E.D.) Folder. Please read these books with your child each night. Keep track of fluency progress by completing the reading log. (see note regarding the fluency rating scale in the R.E.D. folder) The goal is for your child to be able to read their books fluently and with comprehension.
At the end of each week (Fridays) I will provide your child with time to exchange their books for new ones. Please ensure your child returns their folder to school every Friday to exchange their books. (note: in the event of a PD Day or holiday, please return R.E.D. folders on Thursdays instead)

In addition to the home reading books, your child will also bring home a sight word booklet. Automatic sight word recognition greatly helps reading fluency. Your child is encouraged to practise reading the sight words throughout each week and I will listen to them read the words on Fridays.
Feel free to contact me if you have questions regarding the reading program. I am always happy to discuss reading strategies and other ways to support your child as they develop their literacy skills.
